The European Urban Charter III, adopted by the Congress at its 45th Session, is an invitation for all those involved in urban development to review their practice and to implement the principles of democratic, cohesive, sustainable, resilient, digital and ethical governance, enabling towns and cities to meet the current challenges of urban societies.
This revised Charter takes greater account of human rights, environmental protection, capacities of the local level to respond to current challenges and the place of urban residents in local public affairs. It promotes good local governance and better forms of living together in our cities and towns.
Mayor of Skopje and Chair of the Forum of Mayors from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe region Danela Arsovska emphasized that local authorities face multiple challenges and called for cooperation and exchange of good practices in the light of the Urban Charter. “Let’s do it together, let’s start today”, she exhorted.
In its adopted Resolution, the Congress calls local authorities to implement the principles set out in the European Urban Charter III and encourages the relevant national and international actors to take them into account in their activities.
