The third EU Roma Week will take place in Brussels starting on 8th April, the International Roma Day and continue until Thursday 12 April.
As part of the series of activities, the Council of Europe’s Youth Department will organise a panel discussion about Roma youth in the European Policy Agenda Post 2018/2020.
The general aim of the panel discussion is to bring together relevant Roma and youth stakeholders for analytical discussion on the possibilities and ways of creating participatory policy making and implementation within youth and Roma inclusion policies and frameworks. Among the specific objectives of the panel are:
- To understand the current policy framework, tools and opportunities for inclusion of young Roma people
- To build synergies among relevant institutions in securing the inclusion of Roma youth issues into Roma and youth policies and programmes
- To develop specific recommendations towards relevant European institutions for the inclusion and participation of young Roma in the upcoming policy cycles and implementation, particularly relevant for the period post 2018 and 2020.
The panel is organized under the EU Roma Week by the Council of Europe in close cooperation with the DG Justice, European Youth Forum and ternYpe International Roma youth network.

Description and draft programme of the panel
The EU Roma Week consists of a series of events which will provide recommendation on combating anti-Gypsyism and continued structural discrimination of Roma communities as a forefront of the efforts for the social and economic inclusion of Roma. It will be an opportunity for experts, activists, and policymakers to strengthen the recognition of anti-Gypsyism as well as develop strategic and coherent responses.
Among the specific objective of the EU Roma week are:
- To support the recognition of anti-Gypsyism - the week will be an opportunity for experts and activists on the issue to advocate European and national policymakers to strengthen the recognition of anti-Gypsyism as well as develop strategic and coherent responses
- To advocacy for specific thematic areas - specific events will be held on different thematic areas including on the Roma Framework and its renewal post 2020
- To support networking and knowledge exchange - facilitate exchange and capacity building between and amongst experts from civil society and policymakers and officials in the European and national Institutions, including Roma, with the aim of building capacity of activists and inspiring similar activities in Member States.
