The fourth Equality Week took place in Georgia

The Council of Europe Office in Georgia together with national partners organised the fourth Equality Week on 15-22 November under the slogan - ”Georgia is Us.” The Equality Week is celebrated around the International Day for Tolerance. During the Equality Week, the importance of diversity and equality is discussed in different meeting formats, where all parties who can promote changes are involved. The meetings focus on the dissemination of information on redress mechanisms for the victims of discrimination.

The launching event of the Equality Week, which took place on 16 November 2022, brought together government representatives, representatives of non-governmental organisations, including community organisations, and ambassadors.

The launching event of the Equality Week was followed by various events in Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia in cooperation with the Public Defender’s Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor’s Office, Office of Resource Officers of Educational Institutions, the Training Centre of Justice, Office of State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Equality Coalition, Equality Ambassadors and civic activists. In addition to these events, the super and hypermarkets that are members of the Retail Association displayed support for Equality Week, and distributed visibility items to the customers.

Equality Week is implemented in the framework of the I Choose Equality Campaign which is part of the Council of Europe project “Promoting the Effective Protection of Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia.” The Project is funded through the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.

"After the Equality Week we will continue talking about equality throughout the year and make efforts to improve the environment. I believe that more people will be involved and more initiatives will be implemented during the Equality Week 2023" - Mariam Tutberidze, Senior Project Officer.
