The Georgian-French co-production Brides (Patardzlebi) and the film’s leading actress Mari Kitia have won two awards at the 2014 Sarajevo Film Festival.

For its subtle cinematic approach in telling an intricate tale of separation, suffering, hope and despair. Through a quiet, cadenced narration which beautifully focuses on the smallest details we witness love surmount prison walls.
HEART OF SARAJEVO FOR BEST ACTRESS
Mari Kitia (BRIDES/Georgia, France)
For playing a complex role leading the cast with strength and dignity. Through her performance we are able to completely understand her situation. She does this with no need to demonstrate to us, but lives simply in her character's world.
The Sarajevo Film Festival was held for the first time in 1995 at the height of the siege of the Bosnian capital. It seeks to support and further regional cinema and authors. The 2014 edition ran from 15 to 23 August 2014. Short and full-length films by young directors from Eastern and Southern Europe are screened at the Festival, together with independent productions. The festival is a professional platform for the seventh art in a region where the Council of Europe is very active. The issues addressed by the contending works quite often tie in with the values upheld by the Organisation. Many are co-financed by the Council of Europe's Eurimages support fund for European cinema.
