Supporting the Georgian healthcare private sector, to enhance equality by strengthening responses to discrimination and harassment

When it comes to the equality domain, one of the objectives of the cooperation activities of the Council of Europe in Georgia is to support the private sector companies in addressing discrimination. On 28 May, the project “Enhancing Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia”, in co-operation with the Public Defender’s (Ombudsperson’s) Office, organised a training for the representatives of healthcare providers from the private sector.

Participants were introduced with the work of the Council of Europe, its relevant standards and good practices, as well as with national anti-discrimination legislation. The training also deepened their understanding of the Public Defender’s anti-discrimination mandate and the role of national redress mechanisms.

During the training sessions, cases of discrimination in the workplace were analysed, covering various forms and grounds of discrimination and harassment. The sessions combined theoretical knowledge with practical elements, including individual and group exercises. This approach helped the representatives of healthcare companies put theory into practical terms; their engagement and high interest demonstrated the need for sensitisation on the mentioned topics.

The Council of Europe remains committed to continuing its co-operation with the private sector to further promote an equal, diverse and safe working environment.

The training was organised with the support of the Council of Europe’s project ‘Enhancing Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia’, funded through the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027.
