On 11-12 January, the Council of Europe held a workshop for the staff of Independent Inspector’s Office on substantiation of decisions of Independent Inspector on disciplinary proceedings in respect of judges.

The Council of Europe consultant, Nina Betteto, Judge of Supreme Court of Slovenia andthe President of the CCJE in 2020, analysed the decisions of the Independent Inspector's Office on the initiation, discontinuation, disciplinary proceedings in respect of judges and provided specific recommendations for further quality improvement.

At the workshop participants discussed standards, rules and procedures governing judges’ professional conduct, based on ethical principles, trust and credibility of the judiciary. The training provided practical guidance on how to apply these principles in real-life scenarios, enhancing knowledge on international standards, principles and procedures governing judges’ disciplinary liability.

The acquired knowledge will enable Independent Inspector’s Office staff to further improve the quality of the reasonings of decisions.
