TJENI online presentation of the French Supreme Court IT tool for detecting divergence of jurisprudence

The French Court of Cassation presented to several national courts and Ministries of justice its IT solution to improve consistency of jurisprudence. This AI powered tool proposes complex labeling of judicial decisions texts on the basis of which the analysis of similarity can be performed to detect case law divergence.

As guardians of the consistency, the French Supreme Court and other Supreme Courts of the Council of Europe Member States have to invest human resources and efforts to limit the discrepancy in the case-law. Therefore, the automation of part of the analytical tasks represents important contribution to more efficient delivery on the mission of Supreme Courts.

The presentation was followed by a discussion with representatives of TJENI project beneficiaries, observers, and other Council of Europe’s bodies and entities. Participants exchanged on other applications on automatic labelling of judicial texts, such as support in case assignment, improvement of searchability, better categorisation, etc.

The presentation was held under the TJENI project implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation.
