Over 80 participants join the Webinar on Business and Human Rights: “Business and Human Rights in Legal Practice: ECtHR Case-law through the Lens of the UNGPs”

On 9 July 2026, the Council of Europe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Supreme Court of Ukraine jointly organised an online webinar Business and Human Rights in Legal Practice: ECtHR Case-law through the Lens of the UNGPs.” The event brought together more than 80 participants from across Ukraine’s legal and human rights community to discuss the role of international standards in strengthening business and human rights practices. Participants explored how the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) can support the interpretation and practical application of business and human rights standards within Ukraine’s legal system.

During the discussions, speakers examined the links between ECtHR jurisprudence and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), highlighting key areas such as the state duty to protect human rights, the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, human rights due diligence and access to effective remedy.

The webinar provided an important platform for legal professionals and stakeholders to exchange views on how international human rights standards can inform legal reasoning in cases involving business activities, corporate responsibility and human rights impacts. The discussions were particularly relevant in the context of Ukraine’s ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts, where promoting responsible investment and ensuring respect for human rights remain essential priorities.
