On 22 October 2024, the project will have its official launching event in Ireland. The country, one of the 2 Project’s beneficiaries, is preparing to officially ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT), marking a critical step towards strengthening detention oversight. The launch event gathering over 60 key stakeholders, will provide a valuable opportunity for meaningful discussions, exchanging ideas, and sharing promising practices.
The Project "Technical support for more effective and resilient National Preventive Mechanisms" began on 12 September 2024. It is co-funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission. The project supports Ireland and Cyprus in developing operational instruments, raising awareness and enhancing capacity to strengthen a system that ensure the effective protection and respect of the rights of people deprived of liberty.
