Joint sessions of civil and criminal departments of appellate courts and the Supreme Court held in Niš and Belgrade

A joint session of the civil and labour dispute departments of all appellate courts, the Commercial Appellate Court and the Supreme Court was held in Niš on 24 April 2026, with the support of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”, within the action “Strengthening legal culture in Serbia and the capacities of the judicial and prosecutorial councils”. On the same day, a joint session of the criminal departments of the appellate courts and the Supreme Court was held in Belgrade.

These meetings represent a continuation of ongoing efforts to improve the consistency of judicial practice and strengthen legal certainty in Serbia.

Participants analysed a number of legal issues in the fields of civil, labour and criminal law and, through discussion, presented their interpretations of specific legal dilemmas, with the aim of reaching unified positions and ensuring more consistent application of the law. The conclusions adopted will be shared with courts in order to further enhance harmonised proceedings and decision-making.

The HF III project “Strengthening legal culture in Serbia and the capacities of the judicial and prosecutorial councils” will continue to support national partners in fostering case law harmonisation.
