In co-operation with the division of Co-operation and Capacity Building on Freedom of Expression

The panel will focus on the critical role of media in debunking and combating disinformation. It will gather representatives of the Ukrainian government and media and their international peers to discuss current threats to global information integrity, delving into specific examples of Russia’s targeted information attacks on Ukraine. It will also showcase practical strategies that media professionals can employ to enhance audience’s resilience and counter disinformation, including tactics for navigating social media. The discussion will be followed by an exchange with the audience. At the end of the session the speakers and participants of the panel will be invited to reflect on how the joint efforts of governments, media, civil society, and international organisations can further combat disinformation and safeguard the integrity of our shared information space.

 


Moderator:

Mariya FREY, journalist, Ukraine

Mariya Frey is a results-oriented leader with a strong background in management and policy development. Currently a board member of the Ukrainian Public Broadcasting Company SUSPILNE, she drives strategic initiatives to enhance organizational growth and sustainability. With experience as a senior producer, she has championed media transformation, promoting freedom of speech and social inclusion. Mariya has successfully managed numerous cultural events and projects aimed at fostering community engagement and transparency. Holding Master's degrees in Public Policy and Translation, she is committed to advancing social dialogue and equality through impactful local initiatives.

Andrew Wilson is Professor of Ukrainian Studies at University College London.
