Elísio Macamo is originally from Mozambique, where he grew up and went to school. He holds an MA degree in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Salford (UK), an MA degree in Sociology and Social Policy from the University of North London (UK), a PhD in General Sociology and a Habilitation in General Sociology and Development Sociology from the University of Bayreuth (Germany). He is Associate Professor of African Studies, Director of the Centre for African Studies and Head of the Social Sciences Department of the Philosophical-Historical Faculty of the University of Basel
