Meetings to identify effective channels for communicating on minority rights and redress mechanisms

The Council of Europe organised information meetings on available redress mechanisms for minorities in Marneuli, Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki. The meetings were held on 25, 27 and 28 February in partnership with the Public Defender’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice.

The meeting aimed at sharing information on the available redress mechanisms in Georgia and identifying effective channels for communicating on minority rights and redress mechanisms.

Minority groups with different backgrounds including activists, journalists, teachers, NGO representatives, as well as local government attended the meetings having the possibility to receive practical information and exchange views on better means of communication.

The information meetings were organised within the Co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia” implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
