Workshop with Supreme Court judges for better application of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights by national courts in Georgia

On 15 June 2020, an online webinar was organised for the newly appointed Supreme Court judges and legal staff on the latest case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Participants of the webinar learned about cases examined by the Court in 2019-2020. Discussed topics included cross-examination of witnesses, allowing sufficient time to acquaint itself with telecommunication-surveillance data and electronic files, independence and impartiality of judges, restrictions on the right to a public hearing, or domestic violence and other legal aspects derived from the articles 6 and 8 of the ECHR. In addition, participants overviewed the case-law of the ECtHR on state-emergency measures and the derogatory clause of Article 15 of the Convention.

The online session is organised under the CoE/EU joint project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia" which is funded by the European Union within the framework of Partnership for Good Governance programme.
