In April and May 2022, 40 representatives of Georgian regional police departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including investigators and heads of regional investigation units, raised their capacities to apply human rights standards while ensuring the effectiveness of investigations into offences involving juveniles. They increased their knowledge on a wide range of important topics such as established international standards on juvenile justice, investigations into cases of sexual offences and other instances of violence against children. Furthermore, the training enhanced participants’ skills on interviewing techniques for juveniles and improved their understanding on harm prevention and re-victimisation as a result of procedural and administrative wrongdoing.

The two 3-day training sessions were organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia” (HRCPG) which is designed to address issues related to effective policing in line with human rights standards, the rights of detained persons and their treatment by police, the treatment of juvenile victims and offenders as well as effective investigation into alleged ill-treatment by police and effective remedies against police misconduct.
