Discussing the Legal Amendments Package with the Georgian Bar Association

The Council of Europe Office in Georgia organised a discussion of draft amendments to laws regulating professional activities of lawyers with the Executive Board and the Ethics Commission of the Georgian Bar Association.

The objective of the meeting was to consolidate a position concerning provisions of the draft with the new Board and the Ethics Commission of the GBA. The new governing bodies were elected in December 2021, while the package was submitted to the Parliament of Georgia in September 2021 and is pending review in the Legal Committee.

With the support of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia discussion of the package involving representatives of the Legal Committee and the GBA will be organised at the end of May this year. The changes are proposed to the “Law of Georgia on Lawyers”, “Civil Procedure Code”, “Law on Administrative Offenses”, “Criminal Procedure Code”, “Law on State Duty”, “Law of Georgia on Notaries” and the “Law on Personal Data Protection”.

The activity was organised within the framework of the project “Enhanced Access to Legal Aid Services for Marginalised Population” implemented with the support of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Netherlands, Liechtenstein and Latvia.
