A public discussion in a form of a round table on the proposed model for an External Oversight Mechanism (EOM) over the police work was organised on 4 April 2017 in Skopje.

The aim of the round table was to present to the professional public the “Prosecution Plus’’ model, which has been identified as the most suitable EOM model by a multi-institutional working group, composed of representatives from relevant ministries, organisations and the civil society.

The event was opened by Mr Nicola Bertolini, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje, Ms Monica Martinez, Head of Operations at the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje, as well as Ms Sanja Dimitrievska, State Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who addressed the need for the EOM establishment and presented the position of the Ministry for Internal Affairs with regards to the proposed model.

The round table was attended by more than 50 participants, including representatives from relevant state institutions, namely the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as representatives from the judiciary, the academia and the civil sector, who provided useful input regarding the proposed model. Taking into consideration the participants’ contributions at the round table, by end of April 2017 the working group will finalise its proposal on the most appropriate EOM model and will present it to the national authorities for their consideration and adoption.
