86 lawyers from the Republic of North Macedonia will be part of six cascade training courses, organised with the support of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme Horizontal Facility II, in cooperation with the Bar Association of the Republic of North Macedonia. These courses are introduced as a follow up to the Training of Trainers (ToT) on “Dealing with domestic violence cases in the Free Legal Aid system” аnd “Justice for children: Application of the Free Legal Aid Law when dealing with children” which happened earlier this year under the same Programme.
Twelve trained trainers-attorneys will deliver trainings to the enrolled lawyers, in six separate courses, aiming to prepare them for dealing with cases of domestic violence and justice for children in the framework of the Free Legal Aid system, while applying the knowledge and skills that have gained. The goal of the courses is to increase the number of lawyers from North Macedonia who are trained on these topics and thus are using the standards of the European Court of Human Rights when dealing with children and with cases of domestic violence in the free legal aid system.
A kick-off event that marked the launching of these courses was held online on 8 October 2021. Ms. Lejla Dervisagic, Head of Operations of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje and Mr. Ljubomir Mihajlovski, President of the Bar Association opened the event and stressed the importance of these trainings for the legal aid system in North Macedonia, the benefits of such courses for the lawyers and for the future of the Educational Center of the Bar Association. During the event, the participants had the opportunity to learn more on the format, programme, structure and content of the courses. Following the launching event, the courses will be implemented online in the next two months, using different methodologies for online learning for the selected group of participants.
The launching event and the cascade training courses are organised by the action “Supporting enhanced access to higher quality Free Legal Aid services in North Macedonia” which is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
