Ministries of justice promoting tools for risk and needs assessment, as well as special treatment programmes for violent and extremist prisoners

Representatives of Ministries of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Federation (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS) and prison officials met on 6 March 2019 in Mostar at the first Working Group (WG) session, to start the process of peer review and promotion of existing tools for risk and needs assessment, as well as special treatment programmes for violent and extremist prisoners in line with Council of Europe standards, and the best practices within this area.

WG members exchanged knowledge and practices gained in the process of the application of the Manual for assessment and rehabilitation of violent and extremist prisoners in BiH developed under the previous project dealing with violent and extremist prisoners financed by the United Kingdom Government and implemented by the Council of Europe. The main focus of the WG is the transposition of the Manual guidelines in operational procedures in order to enable prison staff to efficiently identify radicalisations signs among prisoners, and apply into practice the pre-release programmes for this category of prisoners.

This session was part of the project: ''Structured Sentence Management For Violent And Extremist Prisoners", funded by the voluntary contribution of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
