The first online course for legal professionals on Protection of journalists, that will be tutored by the Council of Europe's expert and judge from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Amir Kapetanovic, now is available for 10 participants, judges and prosecutors from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The beginning of the implementation of this course, that has been adapted to the local legal context within the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JUFREX)”, was officially announced today during the online event, during which all participants received the necessary information on technical aspects of the online training and got familiar with the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals programme (HELP) of the Council of Europe, that offers free online courses for legal professionals on the human rights protection standards.
Online course on the protection of journalists was created to help relevant professionals get a comprehensive overview of European standards regarding protection of journalists through interactive methods, as well as about domestic case-law, that would contribute to a more successful and consistent application of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights in their daily work.
The idea is that these online courses for legal professionals on freedom of expression become a part of a regular programme of Centres for education of judges and prosecutors from both entities even after the finalisation of this action, and become an available resource for additional specialisation of legal professionals who tackle the issue of protection of freedom of expression and freedom of the media in their work.
This webinar was organised within the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, and its action on “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JUFREX)”, in co-operation with Centre for Judges and Prosecutors of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Centre for Judges and Prosecutors of Republika Srpska.
