Back Enhancing the tools for risk and needs assessment, as well as special treatment programmes for violent and extremist prisoners in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The first working group (WG) session on reviewing and promoting the existing tools for risk and needs assessment, as well as special treatment programmes for violent and extremist prisoners was held on 29 and 30 August 2019 in Neum. It was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and Respublika Srpska (RS), from the respective Sectors for Execution of Sanctions.

The activity was a continuation of the project entitled “Supporting reintegration of violent and extremist prisoners in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (May 2017 – March 2018) which resulted inter alia in a “Manual on assessment and rehabilitation of violent extremist prisoners in BiH”. The WG members agreed on the transposition of the existing guidelines of the Manual into operational procedures in order to enable prison staff to efficiently identify signs of radicalisation among prisoners and promote the programme of treatment planning for this category of prisoners.

The above first WG session was organized under the project ''Structured sentence management for violent and extremist prisoners", funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
