Students and professors from the University of North Texas, USA, visited the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo today to learn more about our work – particularly our longstanding efforts to combat human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The study visit focused on the key challenges related to human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the joint efforts – involving the authorities and civil society – to strengthen legal prevention mechanisms and ensure adequate support and effective legal remedies for victims.
The students were briefed by the expert project team and were particularly interested in the European Court of Human Rights case law, victim compensation mechanisms, and the role of the civil society.
They concluded that the visit was highly useful and informative, and provided new insights that will be valuable for further research as part of their study programme on the issue of human trafficking in Europe.
The project “Strengthening access to justice and effective remedies for victims of human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025 and funded through voluntary contributions.
