As part of the Council of Europe project “Access to justice and effective remedies for victims of human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, a Training of Trainers on victim-centred interviewing for anti-trafficking actors was held on 14–15 July 2025 in Bjelašnica.
The training gathered prosecutors, police officers, social workers, psychologists, and representatives of NGOs working in the field of combating human trafficking. Participants enhanced their knowledge and practical skills in trauma-informed interviewing, relevant ethical and legal standards, and effective inter-institutional cooperation.
The main topics focused on the legal and ethical aspects of interviewing victims, the application of trauma-informed approaches to reduce re-traumatization, effective communication and trust-building with a culturally and gender-sensitive approach, best practices in using open-ended and non-suggestive questions, and the importance of coordination among actors in victim-centered investigations.
The second day of the training was dedicated to practical exercises, including simulated interviews and a mock trial, allowing participants to apply newly acquired knowledge in realistic scenarios.
At the closing session, 14 certificates were awarded to participants who successfully completed the training.
This event represents an important step in strengthening the capacities of anti-trafficking professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure effective, victim-centered justice and support for survivors of human trafficking.
The project “Strengthening access to justice and effective remedies for victims of human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025 and funded through voluntary contributions.
