Efforts to reduce case backlogs and strengthen court efficiency were a key focus of the 20th Court Presidents Conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing together key representatives of the judiciary and international partners.
Organised by the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 1 April 2026 in Teslić, the conference particularly highlighted the role of the Council of Europe European Commission for the efficiency of justice (CEPEJ) and its work in Bosnia and Herzegovina in strengthening judicial efficiency.
A dedicated panel reviewed data-based approaches to improving the effectiveness and transparency of the judicial system, including through the judicial performance dashboards developed by the CEPEJ for all courts in BiH, and potential application of the CEPEJ cyberjustice tools in the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Participants also discussed the latest indicators for BiH from the 2025 “Dashboard Western Balkans” report, with specific focus on budgetary issues and the calculation of case disposition time in various types of proceedings.
This conference was supported by the CEPEJ action “Strengthening the Efficiency and Quality of Justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHSEJ)”, as part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe’s programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye".
