Series of cascade trainings for prosecutors on application of pre-trial measures completed

The Council of Europe and the European Union completed series of cascade trainings for prosecutors on application of pre-trial measures following the development of training manual and setting up pool of trainer prosecutors.

As a result, more than 80 prosecutors increased qualification on application of pre-trial measures in line with the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. The content focused on requirements for detention as a measure of last resort and bail. Moreover, trainer prosecutors informed their peers about findings of internal monitoring and delivered respective recommendations for further improvement in applying pre-trial measures.

It is planned to involve all prosecutors in the sessions to align the national practice of application of pre-trial detention with the European Court of Human Rights standards in 2022.

The cascade trainings were organised in the framework of the project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II
