The second meeting of the working group for the assessment of legislative needs was organised between 17 and 20 December 2019, in Istanbul, within the framework of the Joint Project on the Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey (CJS). The aim of the working group was to further enrich the findings of the first needs assessment working group as well as evaluating the needs of project stakeholders and beneficiaries dealing with human rights issues, which are placed at the centre of the project (e.g. right to a fair trial, cybercrime, financing of terrorism), in context of the current legislation and policies.

The international and national consultants met the representatives of Istanbul Bar Association, NGOs, The Banks Association of Turkey, Judges and Prosecutors dealing with Organised Crimes, Cybercrime and Anti-terror issues, Judges and Prosecutors of the Court of Appeal and the Forensic Medicine Institution.

Following the completion of the needs assessment missions project consultants have started to work on consolidation of their findings and the assessment report will be finalised and shared with stakeholders in early 2020, which will serve as a road map in structuring the legislation to prevent European Convention on Human Rights violations and provide guidance for next project activities.
