Back Round Table Meeting: Challenges in Fighting Cybercrime Effectively while Ensuring Procedural Safeguards

The first regional round table meeting on challenges in fighting cybercrime effectively while ensuring procedural safeguards was organised within the Joint Project on Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey on 26-27 February 2020 in Izmir.

The meeting was organized with the participation of the President and Members of the Courts of Appeal, Public Prosecutors from various provinces, Public Prosecutors and Rapporteur Judges from the Court of Cassation, representatives from the General Command of Gendarmerie, the Directorate General of Security, Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) and the Banks Association of Turkey. Participants exchanged views on the major problems and solutions related to investigation of cybercrime and procedural safeguards to better protect fundamental rights while conducting effective investigations. A  recommedation report in the light of the outputs of the meeting is drafted and shared with the stakeholders.
