The Council of Europe supports introduction of modern information technologies into the work of prosecutorial support bodies

Within the framework of the Project “Continued support to the criminal justice reform in Ukraine”, funded by the Government of Denmark, the Council of Europe has provided modern IT equipment to the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine (NAPU) and the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors (QDCP). It is expected that this equipment will facilitate more effective work of these institutions.

Modern IT equipment, in particular: servers, software, uninterruptible power supplies, network switches and other related tools were officially transferred to NAPU and QDCP at their premises on 9 August 2018.

Purchase of the equipment has been carried out in accordance with the needs of NAPU and QDCP in organising their work effectively, related, in particular, to the improvement of prosecutorial HR management, where these institutions play key role.

Thus, QDCP ensures recruitment, transfer and dismissal from the office of public prosecutors, reviews disciplinary complaints and adopts decisions on the imposition of respective disciplinary sanctions on public prosecutors. NAPU is in charge of the initial training of candidates for the position of public prosecutor and continuous training of prosecutors (including distance learning). All the above-mentioned functions require appropriate technical support, proper processing and storage of the large array of data via modern IT equipment.

"We hope that this modern IT equipment will help our partners in the improvement of the HR management methods and procedures, as well as facilitate performing the respective functions of NAPU and QDCP. Indeed, their successful performance is a key element of building an effective prosecution service in Ukraine", said during the event Ketevan Tskhomelidze, the Project Manager.

Rector of NAPU Mykhailo Loshytskiy and Deputy Chairperson of QDCP Viktor Shemchuk officially signed the transfer of ownership documents from the Project beneficiaries’ side.

Purchase and transfer of the equipment is part of the continuous support by the Council of Europe of implementation of the reform of the Ukrainian public prosecution service in line with the European standards and best practices.

It is worth mentioning, that the establishment of the prosecutorial self-governance and support bodies in 2017 constituted a significant breakthrough in the reform of public prosecution service in Ukraine.

More information concerning prosecutorial self-governance and support bodies is available in the publication prepared within the framework the Council of Europe Project "Continued Support to the criminal justice reform in Ukraine".
