Back Empowering law students in the region to reunite in protecting the environment

Regional school on Environment and Human Rights started on 5 July 2021 in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event which brings together 37 students from law faculties of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, was opened by the key note address on Human rights as a career choice, delivered by Faris Vehavovic, judge of the European Court of Human Rights elected in respect of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During an intensive 5-day course, students will be introduced to the key concepts and notions of environmental legal regime and human rights-based approach, environmental rule of law, European human rights instruments and their environmental jurisprudence.

The students will have an opportunity to discuss relation between human rights and environment in view of the national and regional policies aiming at conservation of natural resources, and remedying the damage, where possible. The conversation on the interaction and importance of the strategic litigation and advocacy will be facilitated by European climate activists and lawyers from environmental NGOs.

The School is organised under the project: "Initiative for Legal Certainty and Efficient Judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina- Phase II", implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the Kingdom of Norway, participation of law students from Montenegro and Serbia was supported trough Actions "Improved procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings" and "Strengthening the effective legal remedies to human rights violations in Serbia", implemented under the joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022".
