The acting President of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention, Ms Edita Žiobienė, is invited to speak at the session on national minorities at the Fundamental Rights Forum of the European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency in Vienna on 25 September 2018. This session will explore the notion of belonging against the background of various international instruments protecting persons belonging to national minorities. Doing so, it will address the difficulties national minorities face in today’s Europe, including as regards expressing their identity. Can the notion of belonging help us to better deal with multiple identities? Among the other speakers are Mr Fernand de Varennes, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minorities Issues and József Nagy, Member of European Parliament.
