Back Usage of literature to prevent discrimination

The training unit (TU), developed in the Pestalozzi Programme in the Education for the prevention of discrimination (DISC) module, consists of two double lessons with a suggested break of at least one week in between.

The first lesson focuses on emotions with the aim of making feelings of empathy clearer. The second lesson is focused on intellectual activities, namely: the analysis of a leading protagonist in relation to the Human Rights Charter and the analysis of different ways in which literature can be used in the classroom to create feelings of empathy in the reader, in order to challenge/influence their point of view.

Method and application are covered in the debriefing session by searching for other possible texts and stories which can be used in the classroom with children.

Methods/techniques used for implementing the TU are: individual work, group work, pair work, and whole class work.
