Back "Respect" between genders: how to teach boys and girls to respect themselves and each other

This training unit deals with the topics of gender and sexuality in the classroom. The training unit is conceived in a way that teachers understand sexuality of a child or young person as a human right. It promotes the “right to sexuality” and “gender-respect” in addressing sexuality issues of young people in a classroom. Moreover, it helps teachers acquire some basic knowledge about the sexuality of adolescents and current concepts and research in the field. Activities assist learners in minimising the influence of bias and prejudices towards sexuality in the classroom and also help add new knowledge on sexuality to the curriculum.

The training unit is designed to train teachers who teach health education or other associated subjects. During the training, participants increase their awareness of their individual experience of sexuality.

This training unit contains various activities such as pair work, group work, individual work, plenary and case study analyses.
