GREVIO held its 40th plenary meeting

The Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) held its 40th meeting, in Strasbourg, from 12 to 15 October 2026.

Marking the occasion, a new video was launched highlighting the need for effective monitoring of the Istanbul Convention - GREVIO’s core mandate. It highlights GREVIO’s work when conducting its evaluation procedures, for example by screening information, carrying out its evaluation visits, engaging in dialogue with national authorities, women’s rights organisations and civil society more broadly.

Over the course of its 40 meetings, GREVIO has discussed and adopted 58 reports, including 39 baseline evaluation reports and 19 first thematic evaluation reports on the theme of “Building trust by delivering, support, protection and justice. GREVIO’s full body of work is accessible via the HUDOC-GREVIO database, which is a valuable research tool. A tutorial on how to use this search engine was launched and presented to GREVIO. It is now available on the dedicated web page.

Adding to its body of work, GREVIO adopted its first thematic evaluation reports on Georgia, Norway, Slovenia and Switzerland, which will be made public, together with any final comments received from the authorities by the end of the year. GREVIO also approved its preliminary first thematic evaluation report on Germany.

With the end of the first thematic evaluation round in sight, GREVIO adopted its questionnaire for its second thematic evaluation round. The focus of this evaluation round will be on “Prevention and accountability”. It will be launched in 2027.

GREVIO welcomed four new members: Lara Dimitrijevic, in respect of Malta, Claudia Segre in respect of Italy, Petra Volke in respect of Germany and Michelle Walsh, in respect of Ireland.
