GREVIO carries out its baseline evaluation visit to the United Kingdom

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) is carrying out an evaluation visit across the United Kingdom from 18 to 26 January 2024. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by the United Kingdom of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims, prosecute the perpetrators and implement comprehensive and co-ordinated policies.

During the evaluation visit, the GREVIO delegation has planned meetings in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with representatives from different ministries and public bodies as well as holding separate meetings with representatives of non-governmental organisations, civil society and independent bodies working in the area of violence against women.

GREVIO plans to publish its baseline evaluation report on the United Kingdom during 2024.
