In the case of Vučković v. Croatia, the Court rendered a judgement finding a violation of the prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment and the right to respect for private life. The case concerned the sexual assaults committed against the applicant in her workplace, and the lack of deterrent or proportionate punishment of the perpetrator. The Court referred to GREVIO's baseline evaluation report on Croatia, which had emphasised that “conditional or suspended sentences in domestic violence cases and other forms of violence against women do not serve the aims of ensuring justice for victims, ending impunity for perpetrators or deterrence”.
