On the occasion of the 19th meeting of the Committee of the Parties to the Istanbul Convention held on 11 December 2025 and as the 16 Days of Activism on Gender-based Violence had drawn to a close, the 38 member states of the Council of Europe that are party to the Istanbul Convention re-confirmed their support to this treaty as the most comprehensive set of legally binding standards on combatting violence against women. In a statement made at the initiative of France, the 38 states parties to the Istanbul Convention underlined the importance of respecting, protecting, promoting, and fulfilling the human rights of all women and girls as a necessary condition for achieving gender equality and re-confirmed their commitment to ending violence against women and promoting gender equality.
