Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women visits Germany

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Germany from 6 to 10 September 2021. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Germany of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Ministries: Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth; Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency; Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection; Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community; Federal Ministry of Health; Federal Office for Migration and Refugees; Federal Criminal Police Office and Federal Statistical Office; Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media; as well as numerous regional ministries, police and public prosecutor’s offices. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society working in the area of violence against women, including those with a specific focus on migrant women.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report during 2022.
