Limassol, Haifa and Ioannina engaged in the development of a Mediterranean Intercultural Cities Community through sport and youth

The cities of Limassol (Cyprus), Haifa (Israel)and Ioannina (Greece) have been awarded an ICC grant for inter-city work on a project for the developing a Mediterranean Intercultural Cities Network which will promote Diversity and Interculturalism throughout the region.

Although the socio-economic context of the three partner cities is quite different, they share many similarities like a unique geographic position, various communities living together, high percentage of residents with migrant background and of course the negative effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

In order to promote diversity and inclusion and reduce the negative social effects of the pandemic, the project MEDITERRANEAN INTERCULTURAL CITIES NETWORK: SPORT – YOUTH – INCLUSION 2021 will carry out needs assessment and a number of capacity building and pilot activities around the theme of sports, youth and inclusion. The project will mobilise local authorities, sport, social, civic and youth stakeholders and will encourage collaboration and local empowerment, benefitting both the cities staff and the local populations, including migrants.

In order to ensure the transferability of this experience throughout the ICC network, the project partners will also compile a policy brief based on what they learned.

Congratulations!
