Reinforcing National Execution of the European Court's judgments by Georgia
The main objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of existing mechanisms (domestic remedies) for execution of the ECtHR judgments.
Specific objectives:
- Improving the capacity of national execution stakeholders (national courts and Special Investigative Service) in re-opening of proceedings following a judgment/decision of the ECtHR .
- Strengthening the role of the Parliament of Georgia in carrying out its oversight functions over the execution of ECtHR judgments and harmonization of national legislation with European standards.
- Enhancing the role of National Human Rights Institution and NGOs in the execution of the European Court’s judgments.
- Improving the legal framework, and enhancing the national coordination for the full execution of Court’s judgments at domestic level.
Main partners and beneficiaries: Parliament of Georgia, Ministry of Justice, National Courts , Office of the Prosecutor’ General, Special Investigative Service , Georgian Bar ,Public Defender’s Office , NGOs.
By strengthening the domestic remedies for the implementation of the European Court’s judgments, the Project aims to foster a legal environment where individuals can seek justice and receive redress for human rights violations at national level.
The Project will employ a diverse range of methodologies and take initiatives to achieve its objectives effectively. By employing, inter alia, the following activities, namely, working groups/expert meetings, seminars/round tables/conferences, training sessions the project will create synergies among stakeholders, promote knowledge-sharing and facilitate the implementation of targeted interventions aimed at strengthening domestic remedies in Georgia.
