Eleventh pilot training implemented as interactive e-learning workshop

A one-day training on the “Rights of victims of domestic violence – legal framework (criminal and misdemeanor aspects) and case law of the European Court of Human Rights” took place online on 26 June 2023. Participants from all over Croatia took part in the training held by two tutors, Natalija Slavica, Deputy County State Attorney in Zagreb seconded to the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia and Ana Krmek, Senior Advisor to the Croatian Representative before the European Court of Human Rights.

The training brough together 20 municipal judges, and municipal and county state prosecutors. The discussions covered such topics as the legislative framework and support system for victims of domestic violence and witnesses in the Republic of Croatia. An analysis of the Croatian case law before the ECtHR was followed by interactive work on hypothetical cases and a short quiz.

This is the eleventh training session in the training programme developed under the Project in consultation with the project partners – the Judicial Academy of Croatia and the Office of the Representative of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights. The training programme is based on the recommendations from the Training Needs Assessment conducted by the project, and takes into account the interests of target groups (criminal, civil, and administrative law practitioners), the availability of respective materials and HELP courses adapted for Croatia, alongside the recommendations of CoE monitoring bodies.

The Project “Promotion of the rule of law and fundamental rights through high-quality online trainings in the Croatian Judiciary” is aimed at providing support to the Judicial Academy of Croatia to improve the methodology, tools and expertise to design and deliver high-quality training.

The Project is co-funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission, the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM).
