Enhancing police capacities to address digital violence against women in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

A three-day training was held in Sarajevo from 15 to 17 April 2026, focused on enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement in relation to violence against women in the digital environment. The activity brought together 18 police officers from across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those who work directly with victims as well as those involved in the investigation of alleged offences. The event was also attended by representatives of the Gender Center of FBiH, which coordinates all activities in relation to violence against women in the digital environment, to ensure a comprehensive and collaborative approach at both entity and state level. The training provided a comprehensive overview of technology-facilitated violence against women, combining theoretical knowledge with practical exercises. Participants explored key concepts related to violence against women, including common misconceptions and the ways such violence is often minimised or overlooked. They also examined international standards, including the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

Through case studies and interactive sessions, participants strengthened their ability to recognise different forms of abuse, handle digital evidence, and ensure a victim-centred approach in their work.

The final day of the training focused on hands-on learning, allowing participants to apply newly acquired knowledge through practical assignments and presentations. This approach reinforced learning outcomes and supported the development of concrete skills that can be directly applied in professional practice.

This training was organised within the framework of the project “Strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina's responses to digital and sexual violence against women”, implemented by the Council of Europe under the Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2026–2029 and funded through voluntary contributions.
