Training Ukrainian lawyers, judges and prosecutors to better handle cases of violence against women

On 5 March 2024, the Council of Europe launched the online course, “Violence against women and domestic violence” for 69 Ukrainian lawyers, judges, and prosecutors. This initiative, held just prior to International Women's Day, reaffirms the undeniable right of all women and girls to live in a world free of violence.

The online course, developed by the Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Division in co-operation with the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) programme, was specially designed for Ukrainian judges, prosecutors and lawyers with hands-on experience in handling cases related to violence against women and domestic violence in Ukraine.

This comprehensive training aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and support their professional response to the increasing number of cases related to gender-based violence against women in a time of war. The eight-module HELP course offers participants access to:

  • recent changes in Ukrainian legislation on combating violence against women
  • links to the national and international frameworks, and legal acts
  • best practices and real-life examples applicable in their daily work.

The course is ongoing through May 2024.

The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe project "Combating violence against women in Ukraine - phase II" (COVAW-II)
