Armenian judges, prosecutors and investigators trained on practical tools to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence

On 14-15 December 2019, the Council of Europe in co-operation with the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Armenia conducted a training for 10 judges, prosecutors and investigators on how to prevent violence against women and domestic violence, protect the victims of violence and hold the perpetrators of violence accountable in line with national and international standards and the relevant case law from the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

This was the second training held based on a face-to-face course and a training manual developed by the Council of Europe in co-operation with the Academy of Justice.

The session about psychological aspects and trauma of the victims of domestic violence in addition to the discussions on the national legal mechanisms, international standards and ECtHR cases related to the prevention and combating of domestic violence, helped to deepen the understanding that violence against women and domestic violence is a special type of violence, thus special approaches should be considered’’, emphasised Ani Harutyunyan, Administrative Court Judge.

“This training was another great opportunity to discuss the problems in the field, to discuss practical solutions from the point of view of practical examples and to implement them in the judicial and legal practice”, said Anahit Manasyan, the Vice Rector of the Academy of Justice.

The training was conducted by Council of Europe experts Lori Mann and Lusine Sargsyan, authors of the course curriculum and the training manual.
