The GEC held its 17th meeting via videoconference (8-9 July 2020)

The Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Commission (GEC) held its 17th meeting via videoconference on 8-9 July 2020. An in-depth discussion took place on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on gender equality. The GEC debates also provided guidance to the Drafting Committee on migrant women (GEC-MIG) which has been tasked to prepare a Recommendation on migrant and refugee women in 2020-2021, and which will meet for the first time on 1-2 October 2020. In this context, the Office of the Secretary General’s Special Representative for Migration and Refugees gave a presentation. The forthcoming workshop on “Advancing Gender Equality: The Role and Situation of Institutional Mechanisms for Gender Equality in the Aftermath of Covid-19”, organised in partnership with the Greek Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, was also discussed. The event will take place in Athens on 14 October 2020.
