Guidelines on gender-sensitive journalism in Armenia –with a focus on reporting on women refugees

New guidance on gender-sensitive journalism is now available for media professionals in Armenia.

Gender-sensitive reporting can reshape societal norms, especially in today's media-driven world where gender-based violence, forced displacement, and disinformation have profound impacts. The guidelines not only promote the use of inclusive language, and the equitable portrayal of women and men, but also calls for fair reporting on the experiences of refugee women and girls. It also addresses the rising threat of gendered disinformation – a form of misleading content weaponised to reinforce harmful stereotypes. This guide equips journalists to effectively counteract these narratives.

The guidelines help Armenia’s alignment with the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and foster a more inclusive and respectful media landscape in Armenia.

The guideline was produced with the support of  the Council of Europe project Ending violence against women and promoting gender equality in Armenia”.

The guideline is available in English and Armenian
