On 27 May, the Department for the Execution of Judgments participated in a training session for 20 specialist police officers and investigators from across the Slovak Republic. The event was organised by the Roma and Travellers Division of the Council of Europe.
The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement authorities to effectively investigate racially motivated crimes and to ensure compliance with European human rights standards.
As part of the programme, representatives of the Department gave an overview of the Committee of Ministers’ practice regarding the supervision of the execution of the European Court of Human Rights’ judgments, with a particular focus on cases concerning the prohibition of excessive use of force, inhuman and degrading treatment in the hands of the police and failure to investigate them, discrimination by the police, as well as failure to investigate allegations of discrimination.
Participants were informed about key execution requirements identified by the Committee of Ministers, including the need for prompt, thorough and impartial investigations, the identification and examination of possible racist motives, and the adoption of broader measures to prevent similar violations in the future.
