The Head of Department for the Execution of the European Court’s Judgments and its Head of Section carried out a mission to Skopje from 20 to 22 February 2019 at the authorities’ invitation. The mission focused on making a point on the state of play of the cases concerning church registrations in North Macedonia and other outstanding issues.
In the highlight meeting, the Minister of Justice H.E. Madam Renata Deskoska provided information on the progress of ongoing legal reform and other activities of her Ministry to enhance speedy and efficient reception of the Convention requirements in domestic law and also practice.
The delegation also met with the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Registration Court of Skopje. In particularly interesting meetings with the Ministry of the Interior, Deputy Ombudsman and Prosecutor for Organised Crime and Corruption the delegation was briefed on the latest developments in introducing an external oversight of the police developed in close cooperation with the Council of Europe. The Director of the Academy for Judges and Prosecutor informed the delegation on a number of trainings planned to raise awareness on the obligation to comply with the European Court’s judgments among legal profession.
