Council of Europe delegation met with members of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine

The Council of Europe delegation comprising the representatives of the Secretariats of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Venice Commission, Directorate of Political Affairs and External Relations together with representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine met with members and representatives of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine.

The meeting and exchanges were focused on challenges faced by the Central Election Commission due to the war and with regard to the future post-war elections. During the meeting, the representatives of the Central Election Commission presented a comprehensive overview of the current situation, outlined strategic plans to respond to the war related challenges, emphasizing the significant role of the transparent and trusted post-war elections in the course of Ukraine’s recovery after the war.

The Council of Europe delegation was represented by:

  • Ms. Louise BARTON, Director of the Human Dignity and Sustainable Development Directorate, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;
  • Ms. Sylvie AFFHOLDER, Head of Election Observation and Support Division, Directorate of Democracy and Rule of Law, Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;
  • Mr. Cristian URSE, Deputy to the Director, Head of Political Advice Division, Directorate of Political Affairs and External Relations;
  • Mr. Pierre GARRONE, Secretary of the Council for Democratic Elections, the European Commission for Democracy through law (Venice Commission), Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law.

The Central Election Commission was represented by:

  • Mr. Vitalii PLUKAR, Deputy Chair of the Central Election Commission
  • Ms. Oleksandra KARMAZA, Member of the Central Election Commission
  • Mr. Volodymyr PEREPELIUK, Member of the Central Election Commission

The Council of Europe delegation reiterated its full support to Ukraine and Ukrainian people, as well as readiness to provide further respective and needed support to the Central Election Commission to find the most suitable solutions in line with European standards in the process of preparation, organisation and conduct of post-war elections.
