The Secretariat of the Committee of Convention 108 participated in the G7 Privacy Roundtable in Rome, Italy and delivered a presentation on the topic ‘Privacy in the age of data’.
The presentation focused on the instruments and policies of the Council of Europe and invited the participating delegations to consider supporting the signature and ratification of all relevant CoE open conventions, in particular the Convention 108+ in view of a quick entry into force, and the recently adopted Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The presentation highlighted the relevance of Council of Europe’s instruments in shaping digital policies and for the cooperation among regulatory authorities in G7 countries.
The topics of discussed during this year’s event focused on the Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT), emerging technologies, enforcement cooperation, and Artificial Intelligence. The event was organized by the Italian Data Protection Authority and brought together privacy and data protection regulators from the Group of Seven, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).
As an initiative of the G7 digital and technology ministers, the data protection authorities (DPAs) of the participating countries are set to meet regularly and discuss key privacy and data protection topics in the form of a Roundtable.
