Malta, 9th State to ratify Convention 108+

On Monday 2 November, Ambassador Joseph FILLETTI, Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe transmitted to the Secretary General, Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić, the instrument of ratification of the amending Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS 223).

Now the 9th state to ratify the modernised Convention 108, Malta has been Party to Convention 108 since 1 June 2003.

The entry into force of Convention 108+ is crucial in the digital age and many other ratifications should hopefully take place this year to enable the rapid entry into force of this modernised landmark instrument.
